Installing the App
RapiD Vision runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to download from an app store. Just go to:
You can stop there and use it as a normal website. But you can also install it, which puts a RapiD Vision icon on your desktop, taskbar or phone home screen and opens the app in its own window — no address bar, no browser tabs. It then looks and behaves like any other app on your device.
Installing is worth doing if you want:
- An icon to tap or click, instead of typing an address every time.
- The full screen for the app, without browser toolbars taking up space.
- Notifications on a phone or tablet (on iPhone and iPad these only work once the app is installed).
Note
Installing does not download a large program or change anything on your device. It is just a shortcut with an icon, and it takes about ten seconds.
Before You Start
- You need a RapiD Vision account. If you do not have one, contact info@rapidengineering.nl.
- Use the right browser — this matters, because the install option does not exist in all of them:
| Device | Use this browser |
|---|---|
| Windows PC or Mac | Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (other Chromium-based browsers, such as Brave, generally work too) |
| Android phone or tablet | Google Chrome (Firefox and Brave generally support installing as well) |
| iPhone or iPad | Safari (Chrome and Firefox cannot install apps on iPhone or iPad) |
Installing
Pick your device below.
- Open Chrome or Edge and go to https://app.rapidvision.io.
- Wait until the app has finished loading — you will see the RapiD Vision logo, then the sign-in screen.
-
Look at the right-hand end of the address bar, where you typed the address. There is a small install icon there — a screen with a downward arrow in it, like this:
-
Click that icon, then click Install.
- RapiD Vision opens in its own window, and is added to your Start menu on Windows or your Applications folder on a Mac.
No install icon in the address bar?
Open the browser menu — the ⋮ button in the top-right corner — and look for Install or Install RapiD Vision. Depending on your browser version it may sit under a submenu such as Apps or Cast, save and share.
On Windows, to keep it permanently at the bottom of your screen: find RapiD Vision in the Start menu, right-click it and choose Pin to taskbar.
- Open Chrome and go to https://app.rapidvision.io.
- Wait until the app has finished loading.
-
Tap the menu button in the top-right corner — three dots stacked on top of each other:
-
Tap Install app. In some versions of Chrome this is called Add to Home screen.
- Tap Install to confirm.
- The RapiD Vision icon appears on your home screen, next to your other apps.
Tip
Chrome sometimes shows a bar along the bottom of the screen offering to install the app. Tapping that does exactly the same thing.
-
Open Safari and go to https://app.rapidvision.io.
This must be Safari. Chrome and Firefox on iPhone and iPad cannot add apps to the home screen.
-
Wait until the app has finished loading.
-
Tap the Share button — a square with an arrow pointing up out of it. It is at the bottom of the screen on an iPhone, and in the top-right corner on an iPad:
-
Scroll down the list of options and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add in the top-right corner.
- The RapiD Vision icon appears on your home screen, next to your other apps.
Signing In
Open the app from its new icon and sign in with your normal RapiD Vision account. The app remembers you, so you should not have to sign in every time.
Which pages you see depends on your role — see User Roles.
Notifications
The app can notify you about alerts even when it is closed, the same way any other app on your phone does.
- The first time it needs to, the app asks permission to send notifications. Tap or click Allow.
- On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work if you installed the app to your home screen using the steps above. They do not work in a normal Safari tab. Your device also needs iOS 16.4 or newer.
- You can turn notifications off again at any time in your device's own settings, under the RapiD Vision app.
Updates
The app keeps itself up to date. When a new version is released, you get it the next time you open the app, or when you reload the page. There is nothing to download and nothing to reinstall.
If you suspect you are looking at an old version, close the app completely and open it again.
Removing the App
| Device | How |
|---|---|
| Windows | Find RapiD Vision in the Start menu, right-click it and choose Uninstall. |
| Mac | Open the app, then in its window menu choose Uninstall RapiD Vision. |
| Android | Press and hold the icon on your home screen, then choose Uninstall. |
| iPhone or iPad | Press and hold the icon, choose Remove App, then Delete App. |
Removing the app only removes the icon from your device. None of your production data is stored on your phone or PC, so nothing is lost — you can install it again whenever you like, or keep using the website.
If Something Goes Wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| There is no install icon or install menu option | Check you are using the right browser for your device — see the table above. On iPhone and iPad it must be Safari. |
| The install option is greyed out or missing | Reload the page and wait for the app to load fully before looking for it. |
| The page stays blank or shows an error | Reload the page. If it keeps happening, check your internet connection. |
| The app opens but you cannot sign in | Check your username and password. If you have just been given an account or a new role, sign out and back in again. |
| Notifications never arrive on an iPhone | The app must be installed to the home screen, not opened in a Safari tab, and you must have tapped Allow when asked. |
